The SSPB.V2 Solid State Preamp Buffer (the “SSPB” or “buffer”) is an elegantly simple high performance solid state JFET buffer with flexible configuration options including an optional op amp input/gain stage and the ability to run the buffer as a pure direct coupled input & output discrete buffer.

The kit is geared towards the audio DIYer who is looking to add a solid state buffer to an existing passive or active preamp to improve performance due to impedance mismatch or are looking to increase system dynamics.

When equipped with a volume controller on the front end (not included in this kit) the combined volume control/buffer becomes an effective active preamp with or without gain.

The kit is supplied as a “bag of bag of parts” and requires assembly via soldering. When fully assembled this buffer kit is a circuit board populated with parts. The kit does NOT currently include an enclosure, interface sockets, jacks, wiring or other items typically needed to build a finished stand alone buffer product. Those items are left to the DIYer to source, assemble and integrate.

The dual USB port is ideal for building a DIY balanced preamp with a pair of Tortuga Audio’s V25 Preamp Controller. The dual USB port uses a single XLR-A panel cutout to provide separate USB connections to each of the V25 boards for firmware updates. Connection between the dual USB port and each V25 board is via a 12-inch 5-pin cable. Two (2) such cables are included with the port module.

The LDRxB.V25 is a high performance balanced passive preamp that combines Tortuga Audio’s advanced LDR (light dependent resistor) attenuation technology with elegant contemporary styling designed to satisfy the most demanding audio enthusiast. The solid state LDR300.V25 has been discontinued as part of our renewed strategic focus on our passive preamps and related tube based buffers. 

The LDR300.V25 Buffered Preamp is a remote controlled, singled-ended, solid state active preamplifier that combines Tortuga Audio’s popular LDR (photoresistor) attenuation technology together with a robust JFET current amplifier (output buffer) to deliver high performance audio that will appeal to the discriminating audio enthusiast.

The LDR300 is a unity gain preamp without the gain stage (amplification) that typically colors, clouds and adds noise to the signal path of most active preamps. The LDR300 embodies the “less is more” design philosophy.

Enthusiasts who value a dead quiet preamp with a deep dark background between the notes, exceptional transparency, and pleasing dynamics, will find the LDR300 to be a very satisfying preamp rivaling many high end peamps at a fraction of the cost.
