Johnny B. Goode
Chuck Berry wrote and recorded Johnny B. Goode in 1958 when I was just 5 years old.
It’s hard to overstate the significance of Chuck Berry on the emergence of rock-n-roll. In a very real way, Chuck was the father of rock. All who came after including all the great rock guitarists like Eric Clapton and Keith Richards owe their beginnings to Chuck Berry. When you listen to early Beatles and Beach Boys you’re hearing the influences of Chuck Berry.
So it was fitting that when NASA launched the two Voyager spacecrafts back in 1977 they included a gold record called “The Sounds of Earth”.
And on that gold record there were many songs and sounds from earth but there was only one rock song: Johnny B. Goode.
Today, the Voyager spacecraft have left our solar system and are going where no man – or rock song – have gone before.
Well done NASA. And well done Mr. Berry.
